Valencia day two - Kubica samples the F1.07
|
Robert Kubica took the wheel of BMW Saubers 2007 machine for the first time on Thursday, as the team continued their exclusive test session at the Valencia circuit in Spain.
Despite only completing 39 laps in the F1.07, Kubica finished the day over a second ahead of BMW Sauber tester Sebastian Vettel, who was driving a modified version of last years car.
A number of teething problems with the new car, which debuted in Nick Heidfeld's hands on Tuesday, meant Kubica spent rather more time in the garage than he would have liked, though the team were keen to stress that the issues were all minor.
Both drivers concentrated on set-up work aimed at improving their understanding of the latest Bridgestone tyres, as well as carrying out some promotional activities during the afternoon session.
On Friday BMW Sauber will again be running solo in Valencia as they complete their programme for the week. Kubica will continue working on the set-up of the F1.07 while Timo Glock will take over the F1.06B from Vettel.
Unofficial Thursday times in Valencia 1. Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber, 1:12.310 2. Sebastian Vettel, BMW Sauber, 1:13.490
