Webbers team win Tasmania Challenge
|
Mark Webber emerged victorious in his own charity event on Friday. Webbers four-man squad triumphed in the Pure Tasmania Challenge, after six gruelling days traversing the Australian state on foot, by bike and by kayak.
Webbers Pure Tasmania team - featuring British Olympic rowing gold medallist, James Cracknell, white-water kayak champion, Matt Dalziel and former Australian Ironman, Guy Andrews - took the finish line in Hobart with a total time of 28 hours, 18 minutes and 21 seconds, putting them around 40 minutes clear of their nearest rivals.
Its been a gigantic week, physically and mentally for all of us, said Webber. Weve managed to view some of the most spectacular parts of Tasmania in the last few days, and really push down new barriers at the same time.
Webber, who heads from Williams to Red Bull for next season, started the Challenge back in 2003 to raise money for various Australian childrens charities.
Whats absolutely clear with this event is that finishing the Challenge is something thats a real feather you can put in your cap, he added. Knowing that your effort has gone a long way towards helping youngsters with illness should be very satisfying for everyone that took part.
