Williams to join Rotterdam festivities
|
Williams have confirmed that Dutch-born Chinese driver, Ho-Pin Tung, will pilot one of the teams 2004 race cars around the streets of Rotterdam in the Netherlands on Sunday as part of the citys Maas-side Monaco motorsport festival.
Minardi have already confirmed the participation of their two Dutch drivers, Christijan Albers and Robert Doornbos, and now Tung, who last tested for Williams in 2003, will add to the Formula One presence as Rotterdam celebrates its role as 2005 European Capital of Sport.
It is exciting enough to climb behind the wheel of a Williams again, but it will be all the more amazing to do this in front of a massive home crowd, said Tung, who is set to appear before 500,000 of his compatriots this weekend. I think it is great that the BMW WilliamsF1 Team are actively taking the sport to the people and its great to be part of that in my home country.
Tungs previous test outing with Williams, when he impressed the team at Jerez in Spain, was a reward for his dominant performance in the 2003 Formula BMW Asia Championship. He has since graduated to Formula Three and is currently enjoying a successful campaign in the 2005 German series.
