There will be a minute’s silence on the grid ahead of Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix as a mark of respect for the late Prince Rainier III, who passed away earlier this year.

The Prince, a long-time champion of the Principality’s famous race, died on April 6 at the age of 81, after several weeks in hospital suffering from heart, lung and kidney problems. He was succeeded as head of state by his 47-year-old son, Prince Albert.

A huge car fan, Prince Rainier was well aware of the prestige that motorsport brought to the Principality, in particular the Monte Carlo Rally and the Monaco Grand Prix, where he became a much-loved presence in the podium ceremony.
