Nelson Piquet Junior will join BAR in Jerez this week where he will have the opportunity to drive last year’s 006 car during the first day of the team's test programme.

Piquet, who has previously tested with Williams, will take to the Spanish circuit on Tuesday, as BAR resume their intensive pre-season development programme with all four of their regular drivers.

BAR said the test was in recognition of Piquet’s achievements in British Formula Three last year, when he became the youngest ever winner of the series. The British-based 19-year-old will compete in the new GP2 series in 2005.

The Piquet name and BAR engine partners Honda have a longstanding association. Nelson Piquet senior took seven of his 23 Grand Prix victories and one of his three world titles under Honda power back in the 1980s.
